Dorothy L. Broughton, age 83, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley. Dorothy was born on July 15, 1928 in Woodbine, Iowa to Robert and Nellie (Gilbreth) Broughton. She graduated from Logan High School and Normal Training and taught school for one year. Dorothy married Ellsworth Broughton on Feb. 21, 1947 and to this union was blessed with three children. She worked at Harkers Café, D & S Variety Store, cleaned houses, sold Avon and was head cook at Modale School for 30 years. Dorothy served on the Modale Library Board, and belonged to the Modale Legion Auxiliary for 55 years. Survivors include her daughter, Diane Barrineau of Modale, Iowa; Barry Barrineau of Omaha, Nebraska; sons, Frank Broughton of Missouri Valley and Millie Broughton of Modale, Iowa., Lewis and wife Elaine of Tulsa, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; Brandy Locke and husband Steven of Lubbock, Texas, Jessica Barrineau of Omaha, Nebraska, Chad Broughton and wife Lindsay of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Matt Broughton and wife Jill of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Gary Barrineau and wife Beth of Logan, Iowa; Hannah Feit and husband Michael of Bennington, Nebraska, Dan E. Broughton and Holly McGraw of Tulsa, Oklahoma; eight great-grandchildren; Stephanie, Katy & Sarah Locke of Lubbock, Texas, Benjamin & George Barrineau of Logan, Iowa, Courtney, Tyler & Bradd Broughton of Tulsa, Oklahoma; brother-in-law Herbert Broughton of Missouri Valley, Iowa, and a host of nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ellsworth, five brothers and one sister. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home.
