Nancy L Ruffcorn

Nancy L. Ruffcorn, age 82, of Fremont, Nebraska formerly of Mondamin, Iowa, passed away and joined the angels Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Fremont Medical Center in Fremont, Nebraska. Nancy was born on August 8, 1934 in Mondamin, Iowa to Ransom and Zelma (Severns) McKean. Nancy married James Ruffcorn on December 31, 1953. She grew up and graduated from Mondamin High School where she was active in basketball. She married the love of her life, James Ruffcorn and together they shared love of music and dancing, Nancy’s personal favorite was Frank Sinatra. Nancy drove the school bus for many years for West Harrison along with having different part time jobs. Eventually, she moved to Fremont where she was a cook and dorm mother for Bahner College before she retired. Ever since she was a teenager, she had a friendship with Bonnie Hinkel, Betty Anderson and Kathryn Stevens. They were and are the best of friends. Later in life they were dubbed the Golden Girls. Every year they would get together for birthdays and they loved to go gambling, gossip, eat and just have fun with each other. There are only two of them left to carry on the madness and I am sure they will do a smashing job at it. She was a loving mother to us all. If she could, she would do anything and everything for her family. The highlight of her year was Ruffcorn family Christmas. She would get excited weeks before the event and you could just feel the love she had for everyone. This will be a sad Christmas without her, but we know she will be looking down on us and would hope that we would continue the tradition as long as possible. To her, family was everything. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Ransom and Zelma McKean, a brother, Robert McKean and a sister, Joyce McKean. Survivors include her sons, Daniel Ruffcorn and wife Paula, Dennis Ruffcorn and wife Peggy, Donald Ruffcorn and wife Erika and daughters, Denise Paulsen, Diane Ruffcorn, and Dina Vierya, fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. The family would like to invite everyone to a time of lunch and fellowship at the Mondamin Community Center. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 25, 2016 at the Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley with Elder Donnie Bothwell officiating. Grandchildren will be serving as honorary bearers. Final resting place will be private a burial in the Little Sioux Cemetery, Little Sioux, Iowa To those I love and those that love me When I am gone, release me. Let me go I have so many things to see and do. You mustn’t tie yourself to me with tears, Be happy, we had so many years. I gave you my love and you can only guess How much you gave to me in happiness. I thank you for the love you each have shown But now it’s time I traveled alone. So grieve a while for me if grieve you must Then let your grief be comforted by trust. It’s only for a while that we must part So bless those memories in your heart. I won’t be far away for life goes on So if you need me , call and I will come. Though you can’t see or touch me, I’ll be near with all my love around you soft and clear. And then, when you must come this way alone, I’ll greet you with a smile and “Welcome You Home”.
