Robert “Bob” Prucha

Robert Edward Prucha also known as “Bob” and sometimes Paco, passed away Friday morning, August 8, 2014 at Longview Home in Missouri Valley, surrounded by family. Bob was born in Omaha on March 3, 1940. He grew up with one Brother (Larry) and one sister (Diann). They spent time as children building forts, going fishing and hunting, and helping their father run his poultry business. Bob graduated from South High School where he excelled in wrestling, winning two state titles. Paco enjoyed attending his children’s sporting events and school programs, later his grandchildren’s school activities. After high school, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served on carriers around the World. He enjoyed talking about the sights he had seen in foreign lands and the interesting food he had tried. Bob loved to cook for his family and wasn’t afraid to try new recipes. You could count on Paco to serve up the most tender ribs and smoked meats in the area. He often gave away smoked turkeys during the holidays and folks talked about how delicious they were for months afterward. Bob was an outdoor enthusiast and spent his leisure time hunting, fishing, taking his kids camping, and enjoying the lakes and rivers in and around Nebraska. He excelled at using a bow and arrow for hunting. Bob could sit for hours on a cold morning, watching a salt lick, waiting for the perfect buck to arrive. He would make sausage, salami, ground meat, and more from his harvest. Bob worked a few years in the meat packing industry, supporting his young family. In 1968 he joined the Omaha Fire Department where he worked for over 20 years. Bob wore his uniform with pride. He taught his children how to minimize fire risks in the home. To this day, most of his kids won’t allow open flame candles in their homes. Bob also liked to grow peppers. He made exotic treats like jalapeno jelly, which surprised more than one person who put it in their toast. Paco always had a joke up his sleeve and enjoyed making people laugh. He enjoyed the night life, dancing, meeting new people. Bob went out of his way to make people feel comfortable around him, offering a beverage, asking about their families. He also cared a great deal about wildlife, sometimes bringing and injured animal home to care for it. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Laddie G Prucha and Helen J Prucha; his wife, Sharon E. Prucha; and his son, Todd M. Prucha. Survivors include his children, Tera Prucha of Omaha, Nebraska, Rob (Anne) Prucha of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Dan Prucha of Marano, Arizona, Brent (Rebeca) Prucha of Omaha, Nebraska, Laddie (Liane) Prucha, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Jenny (Paul) Popp of Omaha Nebraska; 15 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Larry (Sandy) Prucha of Omaha, Nebraska; and 1 sister, Diann (Robert) Bednar of Mead, Nebraska.
