Carolyn Jean Jeanie Staben, age 74, of Missouri Valley, Iowa passed away January 5, 2012 at Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Jeanie was born June 10, 1937 to Othel Shorty and Ruth Victorine Vicky Holden in Malvern, Iowa. Jeanie graduated from Malvern High School in 1955. She married Clifford Gene Staben on September 24, 1994. After high school she helped run the family business, the Wederquist Variety Store until its closing. She then went on to work at the Nishna Care Center in Malvern, Iowa caring for those who had disabilities. Her compassion for taking care of others led to a long career at the Glenwood State Hospital School where she eventually retired. After retiring, Jeanie or Miss Jeanie as the students called her, worked for the Missouri Valley Schools for nine years as a Paraprofessional. Jeanie was a very giving person and found great pleasure in making sure her students had needed items such as warm coats and gloves. She loved camping with Gene and her family, spending time with friends, dancing, and going to her grandchildrens activities. Her family was one of her greatest passions in life and it always made her happy to be surrounded by the people she loved. Jeanie was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Donald Rex Holden and her beloved dog, Tinkerbell. She is survived by her husband Gene of Missouri Valley, Iowa; her children: Kimberly Wederquist Miller and husband Dr. Gerald Miller of Alliance, Nebraska, Michael Wederquist and wife Carol of Malvern, Iowa, Katrina Tina Zanders and husband Shawn of Coon Rapids, Iowa; stepchildren: David Staben and wife Barb of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Christin Pruess and husband Rory of Bennington, Nebraska, Sara Trierweiler and husband Dave of Woodbine, Iowa, Michael Staben and wife Sally of Woodbine, Iowa; twenty grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 8, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa. The family would like to invite everyone to lunch and a time of fellowship at the Malvern United Methodist Church following the service.
