Larry Dean Dewaele, 64, of Missouri Valley, Iowa passed away Thursday, July 26th, 2012. Dean was born April 26th, 1948 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Joseph and Millie (Hemmingsen) Dewaele. Dean graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1966. He then attended Fort Dodge Community College for two years until he was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War at age 21. He served as a Combat Medic for the 25th Infantry, Tropic Lightning. Dean received the Purple Heart for being wounded in Vietnam. He retuned to Missouri Valley and began work. Dean married Jean Marie Rodewald on August 9th, 1975 in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Dean served many endeavors in his lifetime, establishing Papa Joes, Thumbs restaurant, as well as a building contractor, constructing many homes, apartments and buildings in and around Harrison County. He recently retired from the United States Post Office where he had worked as a Rural Carrier. Most of all, he loved having a good laugh with his family and friends, as well as working on his Willy Jeep. Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Millie Dewaele. Dean is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jean Dewaele of Missouri Valley, Iowa, children: Jamie Rejda and husband Jim of Omaha, Nebraska, Jessie Dewaele and fiancée Adam Griffis of Missouri Valley, Iowa, and Tyler Dewaele of Missouri Valley, Iowa, and granddaughter, Athena Rejda of Omaha, Nebraska. Survivors also include sister, Nancy Powers of Wayne, Nebraska and brother Doug Dewaele and wife Virginia of Missouri Valley, Iowa, as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 29th, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Saint Patricks Catholic Church in Missouri Valley, Iowa, with the Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. The family would like to invite everyone to a fellowship lunch at St. Patricks Catholic Church immediately following the Funeral Mass.
