Dolores Ring

Dolores Jean Ring, age 86, passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at the Azria Health Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Dolores was born November 18, 1935, in Beebeetown, IA to Claudward Hugh and Emily Fry. Dolores graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1953 and married Gail Ring in 1956. Over the years, Dolores worked in Missouri Valley for Peoples State Bank, H&R Block, and the Community Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed volunteering to help others. She helped at the First Lutheran Church and the United Methodist Church in Missouri Valley, the ALS Association, the Wisecup Farm Museum, and Immanuel Hospital in Omaha. When her children were young, she encouraged them to participate in 4-H and she served on the Harrison County 4-H Board. She also took some mission trips to Torreon, Mexico and Brownsville, Texas. Dolores enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and camping with Gail in their fifth-wheel camper. Her other interests included swimming, reading, flowers, and butterflies. Music was important to Dolores and she provided musical opportunities for her children and grandchildren. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, Claudward Hugh and Emily Fry, her husband Gail Ring, and her sister Alice Barnhart. Dolores was a wonderful caregiver for Gail for the four or more years he had Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

Dolores is survived by her daughter Darla Ring Schorr of Pekin, IL; and her sons Lyle (Denise) Ring of Missouri Valley, IA; and Paul (Karen) Ring of Dunlap, IL. She is also survived by her grandchildren Melissa (Aaron) Millman of Fairview Heights, IL; Matt (Chris) Schorr of St. Louis, MO; Joshua (Abby) Ring of Bourbonnais, IL; Ben Ring of Kansas City, MO; C.J. Lyons of Bakersfield, CA; Wesley Lyons of Bakersfield, CA; Jake (Tami) Lyons of Lolo, MT; Tammy (John) Jones of Stevensville, MT; and Tonya (Eric) Maldonado of Pearland, Texas. She is survived by her great-grandchildren Connor Millman, Malachi Ring, Casey Lyons, Jacob Lyons, Paige (Mathew) Nelson, and Lindsey (Zane) Gatewood; and her great-great-grandchild Dimitri Nelson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) group known as “ALS in the Heartland” at www.alsintheheartland.org.

A celebration of life will be held at the First Lutheran Church in Missouri Valley, Iowa on Monday November 7, 2022 at 11:00 AM.

A luncheon and time of fellowship will immediately follow the service. The interment of ashes will happen at a later date.

    My thoughts and prayers are with your family. I only met Dolores once at a family reunion in Mo Valley. I know she was related to my dad, Stan Longmeyer, but I’m not sure how.

    So sorry to have to miss the funeral but Covid decided to visit me so I am in quarantine. I am glad her struggles here on earth are over. She will be missed but we know she is where she wants to be.

    I am so sorry I couldn’t get to the funeral. Hoping I can see the video. I am just getting over Covid. Dolores will be missed but she is in such a better place,!
