Donald D. Robinson

The world seems a little poorer today as we mourn the passing of a true follower and servant of the Lord, Donald Dean Robinson.  Don was born February 16, 1932 to Wilson and Lydia Robinson in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.  He was the 6th child in a family of 7 children.  Don wooed and married the love of his life, June Malette, on June 11, 1953, and in time, their marriage was blessed with four children, Joy, Janice, JoAnn and Dennis.

Don decided very early on to dedicate his life in service to God as a minister to God’s people.  Beginning before his graduation from Minnesota Bible College in 1955, he served 10 churches in Cannon Falls, Philbrook, Batavia, and Staples, MN, LaCrosse, WI, Fort Benton, MT, Missouri Valley and Harlan, IA, Tacoma and Kent, WA.  For over 64 years he continued in the Lord’s service, still preaching at Longview where he was residing until just a few weeks before his death.

Of the many people in our lives who are held in the highest regard, very few are held in such esteem as to provide an example to us in every aspect of life.  He worked tirelessly for the Lord, counseling, ministering, and preaching the message of Jesus Christ.  Don touched in some way more lives than could be counted.  There is much praise spoken of him by all who knew him, to which Don’s response would be to insist that the glory belongs to the Lord.  He needed no reminder of what Jesus would do, as he knew it, and lived it all the days of his life.  If ever there was someone deserving of our respect, Don Robinson has unquestionably earned it.

Don remained faithful to the love of his life, June, for over 61 years, holding her hand every day for the last weeks of her life.  Their children continued to honor him as they grew, married, and left home, often remembering the lessons they were taught by their father, and passing those lessons on to their children.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, 4 of his brothers and 1 sister, and his beloved wife, June.  His loss is most keenly felt by his daughters:  Joy Gerbode (David) of Lena, IL;  Janice Allen (Bruce) of Logan, IA;  JoAnn Grace (Mark) of Sultan, WA; his son, Dennis of Dupont, WA; and foster children Rick McKean (Noy) of Cheyenne, WY  and Kris Kharbush of Kansas City, MO, along with 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, one sister, Dorothy Nelson of Poultney, VT, and one sister-in-law, Gladys Malette, of Sault Ste. Marie, MI.

Don passed from this life on Friday, April 14 in Missouri Valley, IA.  While the passing of this exceptional man of God is difficult for those of us who are left behind, we take comfort in the knowledge that Don is reunited with June and all those who went before him.  He is strong and whole again, going to his richly deserved rest in fellowship with his Lord and Savior, Who will have met him with the words, “Very well done, My good and faithful servant.”

Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, April 18 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Hennessey  Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.

Condolences may be sent to the family at 2673 Hwy 127, Logan, IA, 51546.  Memorials can be made to First Christian Church, 119 N. 4th St., Missouri Valley, IA 51555 or Generations Hospice, at 1010 Longview Road, Missouri Valley, IA, 51555
