. Donald Eugene Gene Dinsmore age 72, of Missouri Valley, Iowa passed away Monday, May 27, 2013 at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Gene was born October 22, 1940 to Donald V. and Phyllis (Rothenay) Dinsmore in Logan, Iowa. Gene graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1959 and he went to college at Peru State, and at Dana College. July 27, 1962 Gene married Nancy Spires in Missouri Valley, Iowa and were blessed with three children. Gene worked for Frito Lay as a salesman for over thirty three years and retired in 2004. Gene also was on the Missouri Valley City Council for over seven years, Past President of the Missouri Valley High School Booster Club, member of the Missouri Valley Fire and Rescue Departments. He was an avid bowler of the Missouri Valley Bowling League, bowling for Sunnyside café, Willow Creek Inn and Iowa Feed and Grain. One of the original organizers of the Missouri Valley Slow Pitch Softball League which was organized in the early 1960s, he served as President for many years. The league played teams in Harrison, Pottawattamie Counties, and also teams in Omaha, Nebraska. Gene is preceded in death by: his parents: Donald and Phyllis Dinsmore; In laws: Roy C. and Ellen Spires; grandparents: Clayton and Jennie Dinsmore, Frank and Christina Rothenay; brother: Marvin (Violet) Dinsmore. Survivors include: his wife Nancy Dinsmore of Missouri Valley, Iowa; children: Cherie Brown and husband Curtis of Belle Plaine, Iowa; Chris Dinsmore of Missouri valley, Iowa; Chad Dinsmore and wife Patti of Urbandale, Iowa grandchildren: Jessica Vittitoe of Omaha, Nebraska; Nolan, Holly, and Austin Brown all of Belle Plaine, Iowa; Bailey Dinsmore of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Colin and Graham Dinsmore both of Urbandale, Iowa; brothers: Jim Dinsmore and wife Linda of Blair, Nebraska; Randy Dinsmore of Omaha, Nebraska sisters: Linda Summers and husband Jerry, Patty Stueve and husband John both of Missouri Valley, Iowa; brothers and sisters in law: Don and Loretta Bertelsen of Missouri Valley, Iowa; Jerry and Judy Guinan of Mobile, Alabama; Robert and Roberta Spires of Lawrence, Kansas. Aunt: Frances Nielsen of Cedar Falls, Iowa. Many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of many friends. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 30, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service 6:00 p.m.at the Christian Church in Missouri Valley, Iowa In lieu of flowers memorials to the MVHS Athletic Department or the Fine Arts Department.
