Dorothy Harter

Dorothy J. Harter age 88, of Missouri Valley, Iowa passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley. Dorothy was born in Harlan, Iowa June 2, 1923 to Clyde A. Obrecht and Helen (Andersen) Obrecht. Dorothy graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1942. She married Glenn Harter March 18, 1944 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was baptized February 21, 1964. Dorothy worked at Moore Brother’s Grocery store for 20 years. She also worked at JC Penney’s for many years and cleaned homes. She was involved in many organizations: The National Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Club as an Officer, Missouri Valley Hospital Auxiliary Past President. She was with the Red Cross Blood Drive for 30 years and chairman for 10 years and was an active Member of the First Lutheran Church. Dorothy enjoyed bowling, card club and spending time with her family and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Clyde and Helen; husband Glenn, sister Gladys Wallace and brother Clyde Jr. Survivors include her sisters: Genevieve Mahanke of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Arlene Hand and Betty Grundmeier both Council Bluffs, Iowa; brothers: Donald Obrecht and wife Peg of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Chuck Obrecht and wife Betty of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Gaylord Obrecht of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Bob Obrecht of Springfield, Missouri, Keith Obrecht of Mitchell, Nebraska; special friends: Jean Greer, Georgia and Dave Johnson, Cheryl Fouts, and Frank Cleaver; sister-in-law: Ina Obrecht of Missouri Valley, Iowa, nieces, nephews, many great nieces and great nephews. Prayer service will be held Friday at 6:00 p.m. with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. at the Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa. The family would like to invite everyone to a time of lunch and fellowship at the Church following the committal service at the cemetery.
