Duaine Vittitoe

Duaine Matthew Vittitoe, age 83, of Missouri Valley left this world Saturday, March 23, 2019 at the Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Duaine the son of Clarence Orville and Mary Agnes (McCrickard) was born on June 14, 1935 in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Duaine attended St. Patrick’s and Missouri Valley Public Schools prior to graduating from the Modale High School in 1953. He then studied accounting at Commercial Extension School in Omaha. Duaine worked for C.A. Swanson & Sons (Campbell Soup Company), Lozier Corporation, Disbrow Millwork, Standard Blueprint Company and Copycat Printing. He retired in 1994 and he and Grayce relocated to Missouri Valley in 1995. Duaine was married to Grayce E. Walker on October 27, 1956 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Duaine was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and was a member of St. Patrick’s Church and Knights of Columbus council 999. He was a past member of the St. Patrick’s Parish Council and Finance Committee. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Rand Community Center and was Treasurer for 13 years, he also wrote grants for the Rand Center, Missouri Valley Aquatic Center, Harrison County Humane Society and St. Patrick’s School. Duaine enjoyed fishing, reading, traveling and visiting relatives and friends. Duaine was preceded in death by his wife Grayce, parents Clarence and Mary, sister and brother-in-law Donald J. and Mary E. (Vittitoe) Baxa, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Vern and Rosina Walker, Edwin and Adah Walker, Harold and Phyllis (Walker) Mahoney, Lyle and Violet (Walker) Schleef, Hyman and LaVonne (Walker) VanMaanen, Maynard Walker and Henry and Lillian (Walker Schwartz. Duaine is survived by his brother and sister-in-law: Joe and Marcella Vittitoe, sister-in-law: Evelyn Walker (Maynard), special friend: Muriel Alger, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa. The family would like to invite everyone to a time of lunch and fellowship at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in the Houdek Center.     So sorry for your loss. I met Duaine through Muriel Grimm. Ever the gentleman and always had a story to tell.

    Duaine was always friendly and willing to help in whatever way he could. He was a great delivery person when I was confined to the hospital bring my mail and papers. He will bee missed.

    Duaine was a wonderful friend and neighbor. Always there with a wave of his hand to say hello and a little conversation to bring a smile. He will be missed. Cherish the precious memories. My sympathy is with you.
