Edgar M. Lease, age 93 of Missouri Valley, Iowa passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Our Dad was born September 29, 1917 in Bellfield, North Dakota to James and Rosa (Pagel) Lease. He left home when he was 13 years old. At the age of 14 he was a cowboy riding the fence lines. He wintered in the mountains and brought the cattle down in the spring. While he was on the ranch he had a horse named Crackers that no one else could ride. At the age of 17 he joined the military and served in WWII. After his discharge he went back to South Dakota and ranched. He married Florence Ryther in October of 1945. They had two daughters, Judy and Janice. They divorced in 1950. Dad joined the Air Force in 1951. In 1953 he married his second wife, Wilma Brayton and had 3 more daughters, Dora, Ardith and Rose Anne. At that time Dad moved the family to an acreage outside Missouri Valley, which had been the old dance hall. He remained in the Air Force until he retired in 1967 as a Staff Sergeant. He worked for Omaha Standard for many years. He then worked as a janitor at the Missouri Valley High School from which he retired in 1984. Dad was an avid organic gardener. He enjoyed every minute that he spent in his garden. Dad loved his guns, hunting, fishing, and his family. He had a great sense of humor. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Wilma of Missouri Valley, Iowa; daughters: Judy Tighe of Sturgis, South Dakota; Janice Berglund and husband John of St. Onge, South Dakota; Dora Ross and husband Michael of Ramona, California; Ardith Jordan and husband Richard of Logan, Iowa; Rose Anne Danielson and friend Patrik of Missouri Valley, Iowa; sister: Arlene Sharp of Hermiston, Oregon; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, and 1 brother. Dad has one grandchild in the Air Force stationed in Whitman AFB, Missouri and one great-grandchild in the navy stationed in Yokosuka, Japan. Dad was loved so much and will be greatly missed. Military Honors by the American Legion Post #337 of Missouri Valley.
