ETHEL M. SWANEY, age 95, of Modale, Iowa passed away Friday, December 11, 2009 at the Memorial Community Hospital in Blair, Nebraska. Ethel was born November 6, 1914 to Henry and Myrtle (Dean) Donnelson in Magnolia, Iowa. Ethel was married to Howard Swaney on April 18, 1931 and they lived in the Mondamin and Modale, Iowa areas. Ethel and Howard were married for 78 years. Ethel was a homemaker and she enjoyed sewing, gardening, traveling and her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband Howard of Modale, Iowa; daughters: Janice McGaughey and husband Mike of Redding, California; Patricia Goettsche and husband Kermit of Albuquerque, New Mexico; son: James Swaney of Blair, Nebraska; daughters: Marilyn Clark and husband Norman of Murrieta, California; Judy Neary of Branson, Missouri; son: Dennis Swaney of Blair, Nebraska; daughter: Linda Scheide of Modale, Iowa; nineteen grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. Ethel was preceded in death by both parents; sons Harvey, Darwin and David; five brothers and one sister. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. The family would like to invite you to a time of fellowship at the church following committal service.
