Georgianna Shannon

Georgianna passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 99. Georgianna (Harrington) Shannon was born on April 7, 1921 in Council Bluffs Iowa to parents M.E. and Florence Harrington. At the age of 1, the family moved to a farm north of Tabor, Iowa where she grew up attending country school, in 1939 Georgianna graduated from Tabor High School. On September 12, 1940 Georgianna married John Shannon, to this union three children were born; JoAnn and twins; Teddie and Bettie. John and Georgianna originally made their home on a farm near Tabor before moving into the town of Glenwood and finally settling in Missouri Valley, Iowa in 1952 where John ran his own radiator business. Georgianna initially provided babysitting services and then cleaned homes and businesses for several individuals in Missouri Valley, until she retired at the age of 79. Georgianna was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church, where she did White Cross mission work for many years; upon the closing of the First Baptist Church, Georgianna joined her family in attending the First Lutheran Church in Missouri Valley. She volunteered at the Rand Center for 10 years and was a member of Piecemakers Quilt Guild for 27 Years. Georgianna was an accomplished seamstress, sharing her skills of embroidery, crocheting and will be long remembered for the many beautiful quilts she made that will forever be a legacy to the many family and friends she lovingly quilted for. Georgianna was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, brother; Markie Harrington and wife Vivian, parents-in-laws; Chester and Mabel Shannon, Sister-in-law; Velma and Son-in-law; Jack Wohlers.

She is survived by children JoAnn Wohlers of Missouri Valley, Iowa; Teddie and his wife Mary Shannon of Springfield, NE and Bettie and her husband Joe Sproul of Logan, Iowa; 9 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and 6 great, great grandchildren. In addition to her surviving nieces and nephews; Georgianna enjoyed the special bond she held with nephew, Larry Harrington and his wife Elaine.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa.
