Gregory “Greg” Hancock

Celebration of Life Gathering will be held 12pm-4pm Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the Eagle’s Club in Missouri Valley, Iowa.
Lunch will be
served at the Eagle’s Club.
Memorials will be
designated by the family.
Gregory Casey Hancock, age 84, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025, at Azria Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa.
Greg was born to
Harry G. Hancock and Phylis J. (Casey) Hancock on January 30, 1941, in Fremont,
Nebraska.
Greg graduated
from Niobrara High School in 1958. He attended Wayne State College and earned a
two-year teaching certificate. He taught at Emerson-Hubbard Junior High in
Nebraska. He returned to college but was drafted into the Army before
graduation. After basic training he attended OCS (Officer Candidate School). He
spent a year in Vietnam as a supply officer and officer of graves registration.
Greg married
Gladys Pribyl on January 15, 1977, in Wolsey, SD. To this union they had two
children, JoEllen and Justin.
Greg had worked
off and on for the railroad laying track and several other jobs. After working
for BSA (Boy Scouts of America), he returned to the railroad. He had over 30
years of railroading, most of those years were with C&NW, but the last
several were with Union Pacific.
Greg was a golfer
and a bowler, an almost 50-year member of the Missouri Valley Presbyterian
church, where he served both as an elder and deacon.
Greg is survived
by his wife of 48 years Gladys (Gus) (Pribyl) Hancock, daughter JoEllen (Chris)
Van Kirk of Phoenix, AZ., son Justin Hancock of Omaha, NE., grandchildren
Evelyn Hancock and C. Henry Van Kirk, sisters Mary Jo (Vic) Albracht and
Cynthia Bedke, brothers in law Gary (Nina) Pribyl of Wolsey, SD., Gene Pribyl
of Camp Crook, SD., Gordon (Linda) Pribyl of Rapid City, SD., and many nieces
and nephews.
