Helen E. McIntosh age 97, of Missouri Valley, Iowa passed away on Friday, December 2, 2016 at Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Helen was born October 17, 1919 in Boomer Township, Iowa to Clarence R. and Teena (Wohlers) Thomas. Helen was the oldest of five children. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Honey Creek, Iowa. Helen attended several rural schools and, at one point completed two grades in one year. She attended High School in Beebetown before completing her last year and graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Helen married William McIntosh on August 13, 1941 and they farmed in Rockford Township southwest of Missouri Valley until Bills death in 1981. Bill and Helen enjoyed bowling, fishing in Minnesota with Leonard and Bernice Crispin, golf, dancing and travel. They were both active in the Real Estate business, First Farm and Home in which they had a partial ownership. Helen moved to Missouri Valley in 1990 and was an active supporter of the Missouri Valley Schools sports, Fine Arts, and Academic programs. She was very active at First Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, VBS, and was a leader in the Ladies Aid and serving on the food committees. She loved to read and solve crossword puzzles and was a volunteer with the Friends of the Library and the gift shop for the Hospital Auxiliary. Following Bills death, she enjoyed traveling with her family and began taking many winter trips to Mesa, Arizona and Texas with her good friend Annabelle Norris. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill, sister and brother in law Bernice and Richard Hansen, brother and sister-in-law Bill and Betty Thomas and her brother in law and sister in law Snuffy and Katie McIntosh, brother in law and sister in law Francis ands Margaret OConnor. Survivors include her sons: Lyle McIntosh of Missouri Valley and friend Lilia Franciscony of Omaha, Nebraska; Tom McIntosh and wife Linda of Missouri Valley, Iowa; grandchildren: Tim McIntosh and fiancée Courtney Riecke and her daughter Kathryn of Cupertino, California; Corey McIntosh and wife Tina of Missouri Valley, Iowa; Cody McIntosh of Tampa, Florida; sisters: Shirley Golden and her husband Ira of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Jean Royer and husband Lynn of Woodbine, Iowa; good friend Annabelle Norris of Council Bluffs, Iowa; caregivers Luann Bailey and Jennifer Clausen; many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Church or Missouri Valley Public Library. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 3:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Missouri Valley.
