James G. Linhart

James (Jim, Jimmy, Grandpa Chicken) George Linhart was born at home in Omaha, Nebraska on June 10, 1934 to James and Anna (Kunce) Linhart. Jimmy spent part of his youth working on his sister’s farm where Hawaiian Village is now located. He attended South High School in Omaha, Nebraska. In May 1954, he enlisted in the US Army where he received many ribbons and medals. During his time in the Army, he served in the Korean War and was injured. He later received an honorable discharge. Jimmy worked as a carpenter and eventually started Payless Basement Waterproofing and ran it successfully for over 30 years. Jimmy was an avid outdoorsman, loved gardening (& had a huge garden every year), his chickens, watching wildlife, living in the house he built in the Loess Hills, Patsy Cline, old time country music, and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Most of all, Jimmy loved his family and having them all together for holiday dinners at home.

In 1970, he took a year off work and built a house for his family in Ralston, Nebraska. Jimmy was a wonderful, loving father who raised his three older children by himself working as a self-employed carpenter and later welcomed a fourth child into his family. In 1992, Jimmy met Lori and they were married in 1995. They were blessed with many happy years together living on their acreage. In addition, for many years, they enjoyed selling their home grown produce and homemade items at the Farmer’s Market in Blair, Nebraska.

He leaves behind his wife Lori Linhart, children Janette (Mike) Clark, Jane (Jim) Alexander, Jim (Cindy Bolte) Linhart, Missy King, and Ann Mittelsdorf; grandchildren Jeremy (Lesley) Clark, Jessica (Justin) Swanson, Jared (Rachel) Alexander, Jordane (Jake) White, Josie (Jon Torskey) Linhart, Mia King, Mason King and Chase Flere; great-grandchildren Kennedy, Kellan, and Cade Clark, Kamron Alexander, Jillian and James Swanson, Jonathan Alexander, and Jolie White; many nieces and nephews, special nephew and friend Joe (Robin) Linhart, and his loving companions Bella and Suzee. My deepest sympathy to Jim’s family. Jim was my boss while working at Payless Basement Waterproofing in the early 80s. He was the best boss anyone could ask for. I truly never thought of Jim as a boss he was more like a true friend and father figure. Blessing to you all. Sincerely, Deb
