James P. Cox

James Patrick Cox, 45, of Missouri Valley passed away September 30, 2013 at home with his wife by his side, listening to the sweet sounds of his beloved children playing nearby. He was born February 1, 1968 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Claude L. Cox and Annette E. (Kennedy) Cox. He graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1986 and took classes at Iowa Western and Metro Tech. He married Hannah Cates in 2007 in Tucson, Arizona where they were both employed at the White Stallion Ranch. They returned to Missouri Valley later that year to be near family. Jimmy was a fantastic cook – he loved to cook and bake for his family and friends who appreciated his many special recipes. He liked to read, draw and write and particularly admired Hunter S. Thompson. He loved music (especially Pink Floyd) and played the trumpet and guitar. He was a self-proclaimed amateur stunt driver. His first job was working at the Tamarack Bowling Alley that his parents owned. Jimmy had many talents and skills and explored his interests by working in various fields throughout his life while juggling a myriad of projects at home. But, he said the Dairy Den was his favorite place to have worked. He loved to tell stories and his sense of humor and laugh will be missed by all who knew him. Most of all he loved his children and spending time with them. He was preceded in death by his parents. James is survived by his wife, Hannah, children: Nicholas J. Cox of Houston, TX; Hunter S. (age 5) and Cali J. (age 3); brothers: Kristopher C. Cox and Michael J. Cox of Missouri Valley, sister, Carrie J. Yeager of Joshua Tree, CA., nieces and nephews. As Jimmy wished, his body has been donated to science. A memorial service will be held October 19 at 10:30 a.m. at the Eagles Club in Missouri Valley.
