James R. “Jimmy” Dozier

James R. “Jimmy” Dozier, age 66, of Missouri Valley, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Jim was born in Omaha, Nebraska to James L. and Bernice Dozier on May 1, 1952. He went to high school at Missouri Valley High School and attended Iowa Western Community College for body shop repair. He married Patricia L. Sayles on June 1, 1974. Jim is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps Reserves from 1972 to 1978 and was called to active duty in 1979. In the 1980’s, Jim was an instrumental part of the River Valley Channel Masters CB Club in Missouri Valley and started the neighborhood watch program. Jim joined the Missouri Valley Fire Department in 1993 and served as a fire-fighter for about ten years before retiring. This did not end Jim’s service to the Missouri Valley Fire Department or community. He continued to be involved in as many ways as possible, being a huge part of the department throughout the years since. Jim was also the official Bell Ringer for fire department ceremonies like the Fireman’s Ball to honor member(s) of the fire department who passed away (similar to a 21-gun salute given to members who have served in the United States Military who have passed away.)

Jim is survived by his wife, Patricia, his brothers, Richard (Myrna) and Bill, his three sons, Brian (Melissa), Jeff (Tina), and Ricky, his grandchildren, Zoe, Christopher, Timothy, Zyanna, and Zayne, as well as many other family and friends.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, James and Bernice, and grandson, Jonathan Dozier.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given. The family of James Robert Dozier wishes to thank the Missouri Valley Fire Department, the Missouri Valley Fire Association, the Eagles Club, the American Legion, and members of the First Lutheran Church of Missouri Valley, Iowa, as well as all the people who have graciously donated toward his funeral funds.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at the Eagles Club in Missouri Valley, Iowa.

Following the burial, there will be reminiscing and food at the Eagles Club.
