Jerry W. Linhart

Jerry was born December 18, 1925 at home in Omaha, Nebraska where he lived until moving to Longview Care Center in Missouri Valley, Iowa on November 15, 2010. Although born with Cerebral Palsy, Jerry overcame many obstacles and roadblocks he would face in living life to its fullest. His positive attitude and kind gentle heart enabled him to make many life-long caring friends, care givers and acquaintances along the way. Jerry did not let having a disability get in his way to pursue the things he loved. He loved his homing pigeons and raised and sold them meeting many people and making friends. Jerry loved his animals and had many dogs over the years and God only knows how many cats. In the early 1950s, Jerry’s brothers, Joe and Jim bought him an electric golf cart. He needed a golf cart driver’s license in order to drive around the neighborhood. When it came time to renew, Jerry went to the Douglas County Court House and someone mistakenly issued him a Motor Vehicle License. He decided to take advantage of this opportunity and purchased an old Chevy with a spinner on the wheel that he used to steer the car and go wherever he wanted. He drove that old Chevy for many years until it died. Shortly after that, he purchased a Cadillac and drove it until it died. Believe it or not, Jerry never received any tickets for driving infractions or had any accidents!! He did, however, always carry insurance. He loved watching the Huskers and wrestling on TV. Longview had been Jerry’s home for the past 3 years, one month, and 17 days. Although Jerry did not want to go to Longview, he flourished with the love and compassionate care he received from the nurses, CNAs, administrative personnel, social staff, activities director, kitchen and housekeeping staff, the many volunteers, and everyone associated with the Longview staff. Our entire family is so very grateful and thankful to all that loved and cared for Jerry in the last part of his life. He was so very special to so many of you, and he would want you to know he loved you also.
