Karl V. Holst Jr.
Karl Vincent Holst, Jr age 74 of Missouri Valley, Iowa passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at home. Karl was born September 13, 1944 in Omaha, Nebraska to Karl V. Sr. and Marie (Harris) Holst. He moved to Missouri Valley, IA in 1952 when his father purchased Westering Drug Store located at 401 E. Erie Street. He graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1962 then attended Norfolk Junior College for a year. Karl went on to Universal Trade School where he earned a certificate in Automotive Mechanics. A year later he purchased and operated the Phillips 66 service station. Karl worked for the CNW Railroad as a switchman until he was drafted into the US Army in 1967. He was stationed in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany with the Pershing Missile Battery during the Vietnam Era. He returned home in December 1968 where he returned to work at CNW Railroad until he retired in 2005.
He married Karen Swanger in November of 1964.To this union three children were born. Several years later they became legal guardians to another child.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Marie (Harris) Holst and father Karl V Holst Sr, sister Janet McQuillan, and brother-in-law Duane Behm.
He is survived by his wife Karen, sons Bill Holst, Tony Woods, and Keith Holst and daughter Kim and husband Jerry Cook. Grandchildren Levi Woods, Regan Holst and Colton, Alexis and special friend Noah Myler and Ashlyn Cook sister Kathy Behm and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, at Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa.
The family would like to invite everyone to a luncheon at the Eagles Club after the committal service at Branson Cemetery in Loveland, Iowa.
Military Honors will be conducted by Julius F. Muller American Legion Post #337.
