Lloyd E. Williams

                                                  When I’m Gone

When I come to the end of my journey And I travel my last weary mile, Just forget if you can, that I ever frowned And remember only the smile, Forget the unkind words I have spoken; Remember some good I have done, Forget that I ever had heartache And remember I’ve had loads of fun. Forget that I have stumbled and blundered And sometimes fell by the way; Remember I have fought Some hard battles and won, Ere the close of the day. Then forget to grieve for my going, I would not have you sad for a day, But in summer just gather some flowers And remember the place where I lay. And come in the evening When the sun paints the sky in the west, Stand for a few moments besides me And remember only my best.

I will forever remember the last time I saw my Uncle Lloyd. Three years ago at our Whited family reunion in Denison. I hadn’t seen him in over 25 years, I was in my 20’s. When he came through the doors of the Pavilion in a wheelchair I stood there ready to greet him and remind him who I was. Before I could speak he looked at me and said “Is that Laurie?” My eyes filled with tears at the thought of my sweet Uncle remembering who I was after all these years! I will cherish that day forever! The memories I have are so precious. I love you Uncle Lloyd, give Aunt Rose a hug for us. Mom (Shirley) sends her love to all! She will miss you Uncle Lloyd. Till we meet again! Love, Laurie
