Malcolm Patterson

Malcolm (Pat) Patterson age 84, of Mondamin, Iowa passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Westmont Care Center in Logan, Iowa. Malcolm was born April 24, 1928 to Ernest and Lois (Eason) Patterson in Bath Springs, Tennessee. Pat joined the United States Air Force April 21, 1948. He met Lois Jean Copp 1949 and they married on May 27, 1950. Pat served in duty stations all over the world and achieved the rank of Master Sergeant. He was honorably retired on May 23, 1968 after over 20 years of service. After his military career he was the vehicle shop superintendent for the Iowa Department of Transportation, worked for several major car dealers as their maintenance supervisor and taught Mechanics at Iowa Western Community College. Pat was a long time member of the Masonic Lodge, the American Legion, Disabled Veterans and the Elks Lodge. He was a leader in his community. Survivors include his wife: Jean Patterson of Mondamin, Iowa, children: Julia Hoppe and husband Stan, Sheree Patterson, grandchildren: Laura Perkins and husband Rob, Michael Patterson and wife Diana, Kristen Harris and husband Evan, Matthew Patterson, great grandchildren: Riley Mullen, Joseph and Jackson Perkins, Noelle Patterson sister; Gail Dyer of Scotts Hill, Tennessee. Malcolm was preceded in death by his son David. A Masonic Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. and visitation will follow until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa. The family would like to invite everyone to a time of lunch and fellowship at the Modale Methodist Church following the service and internment. Military Honors and Taps will be rendered by the American Legion Post 378 of Mondamin, Iowa and representatives of Offutt Air Force Base. Memorials will be directed to the Mondamin Fire and Rescue Department.
