DIANE KOUGIAS, age 69, of Missouri Valley, Iowa passed away Monday, December 27, 2010 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa after a nine year battle with cancer. Diane was born January 5, 1941 in Story City, Iowa to Otto Carl (Pete) and Kathryn Georgia (McGrath) Madsen. Diane graduated from Missouri Valley High School and then attended Creighton University for one year. She married Larry A. Kougias on May 18, 1968 in Missouri Valley. Larry passed away on November 1, 1999. Diane was employed at Mutual of Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska, retiring after 45 years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading, traveling and going to Alabama Concerts. Survivors include her daughter: Lisa Gochenour and husband Kelly of Logan, Iowa; grandchildren: Katelyn and Kennedy Gochenour of Logan, Iowa; sister: Cathy Brodersen of Elkhorn, Nebraska; brother: Terry Madsen of Lenexa, Kansas. Diane was preceded in death by her parents, husband Larry, sisters, Marilyn Schroder, Connie Madsen, brother, Rodney Madsen. A Rosary will be said at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday with family visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. at the Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 30, 2010 at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Missouri Valley with Father Mike Berner officiating. Vocal selections will be Amazing Grace Be Not Afraid One Bread, One Body, musician will be Lyle Waterhouse. Taped Selection will be Angels Among Us by her favorite band Alabama. Honorary Bearers will be the Missouri Valley Class of 1959. The family would like to invite everyone to lunch and a time of fellowship at the church following the service. Burial will be at a later date.
