Marjorie Claire Scott was born on January 28, 1926, at a home off the “Good Enough Road” near Missouri Valley, Iowa to John Edwin and Eva Mae (Gundy) Lewis. She grew up going to country school and then graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1943. She loved to dance, which is how she met her husband, Gerald (Jerry) Wesley Scott. He always claimed she tripped him to catch his attention. They were married on January 7, 1945, in Hiawatha, Kansas. During their marriage, three children were born, Deanne, Gary, and Steven. After living in Council Bluffs, Iowa for several years, they moved to Whittier, California where Marjorie worked in a print shop. While living there, they learned how to square dance and it became a weekly time of fun. In 1965, they moved to Aurora, Colorado where she enjoyed golfing, ceramics, bingo, and the Denver Broncos. Their last move was back to Missouri Valley, Iowa where they resided for approximately 15 years before the passing of Jerry on March 8, 2013. She then made the decision to reside at Cullivan Heights in Missouri Valley and gained a “second family” among the residents. There she looked forward to bingo a couple times a week and playing cards most evenings. She loved her family and was happiest when they stopped in to visit. She was a sweet spirited, sassy and kind lady.
Marjorie became a member of First Lutheran Church in Missouri Valley later in life under Pastor Ray Smith’s guidance.
She died December 6, 2023, in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 97, 10 months and 8 days.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Steven Scott, grandson Shawn Scott, sisters, and their husbands; Viola (Paul) Mahoney, Norma (Jim) Buffum, Jane Ann (Lloyd) Christiansen, brother Larry Lewis, sisters-in-law; Helen Lewis, Dena Lewis, and Diane Lewis.
She is survived by her children Deanne (Richard) McIntosh of Missouri Valley, Iowa and Gary (Jackie) Scott of Kingman, Arizonia; brothers Ken Lewis of Council Bluffs, Iowa, John “Buzzy” Lewis of Neola, Iowa, Dennis Lewis of Council Bluffs, Iowa; sister-in-law Cecelia Lewis of Council Bluffs, Iowa; grandchildren Jeremy (Rosie) Scott, Darin (Angie) McIntosh, and Lynn (Aric Ulmer) McIntosh; step-grandchildren Scott (Marisol) Carter and Cindy Deckard; great grandchildren Colby McIntosh, Kinley McIntosh, Sydni McIntosh, Sean Hein, Isabella Scott and JJ Scott; great-step-grandchildren Melissa Lamonte, Eddie Duarte, Tristan Carter, Beck Siepker; great-great-granddaughter Maeve McIntosh, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at a later date.
