Funeral services for Bob Barker will be held at 11:00 am on Monday September 10, 2018 at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Missouri Valley, IA.

Robert Andrew Barker of Bakersfield, CA passed away on Friday August 10, 2018 at the Divine Mercy Guest Home in Bakersfield at the age of 70 years, one month and 26 days after a courageous battle with cancer.

Robert was born June 15, 1948 in Denison Iowa to Russell and Ruth (Eckermann) Barker the eldest of 13 children. He was raised in Defiance, IA until his family moved to Missouri Valley, IA in 1959. He attended Saint Patrick’s Grade School and graduated from High School in Missouri Valley in 1966. He entered the Navy on May 10, 1968 serving on the U.S.S. Horne during the Vietnam conflict. He was honorably discharged from the military in June 1972 as a Radarman 2nd Class. He lived in San Diego and Bakersfield after leaving the military. He graduated from Bakersfield College with an AS Degree in Electronics & Microwave. He worked for Rockwell International where he tested the defensive antenna system on the B1 and B1-B bombers and retired from Diebold, Inc as a Customer Service Engineer in 2008. He married Myra Pride in Marysville, MO in 1971 and Orene Schnor in Pismo Beach CA in 1995.

His passion was hunting, fishing and camping in the Sierra Nevada mountains Northeast of Bakersfield. He will be missed sorely by his constant companions Kayla and Blackie. He was a great cook and loved to smoke a turkey or tri-tip on his Weber grill to enjoy with friends and family.   He was very proud of providing the funds for fireworks on the 4th of July holiday for his friends and neighbors from his yearlong collection of aluminum cans.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 2015, Father in 2000, brother Andrew in 1977, sister and brother-in-law, Marie in 2015 & David Campbell in 2001, nephew Christopher Branstetter in 1985.

He is survived by his mother of Missouri Valley, IA, brothers, David & Sue Barker of Fort Calhoun, NE, Clifford & Jackie Barker of Missouri Valley, IA and Luke Barker of Omaha, NE. Sisters, Rebecca & Robert Flint of Elkhorn, NE, Deborah & Lyle Waterhouse of Missouri Valley, IA, Susan & Roger White of Lee’s Summit, MO, PollyAnna & Marty Shepard of Blair, NE, Jennifer Moe & (David Aggas) of Santa Rosa, CA, Patricia & Michael Branstetter of Magnolia, IA, Lori & Scott Martin of Round Rock, TX. Aunt, Lasilla Stephenson of Stillwater, MN, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

His inurnment took place in Bakersfield National Cemetery on August 16, 2018. Interment will be at Frazier Cemetery in Missouri Valley IA.
