Ellis Glen Hirst

Visitation will be held 5:00p.m~7:00p.m Sunday, July 27, 2025, at Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley.

Funeral Service will be held 10:00a.m Monday, July 28, 2025, at the United Methodist Church in Modale, Iowa.

The family would like to invite everyone to the United Methodist Church in Modale, to a time of lunch and fellowship following the interment.

Ellis Glen Hirst age 83 of Modale, Iowa passed away July 22, 2025, peacefully at his home with family by his side.

Ellis was born in Missouri Valley, Iowa on July 26, 1941, to Archie and Evelyn Mae (Park) Hirst. He was raised in Missouri Valley and baptized at Missouri Valley United Methodist Church. He graduated from Missouri Valley high school where he played football as a linebacker and earned a football scholarship that allowed him to attend Dana College in Blair, Nebraska.

Ellis married Sandra K. Motz on October 6, 1962, they had two sons, Kevin and Alan. They were married for 54 years at the time of Sandra’s passing in 2016.

Ellis was a man of many trades, he worked as Meat Cutter for 40 years, journeyman, current farm owner, raised Golden Retrievers, and was a lifelong horse lover, breeder, and showman.

Ellis truly enjoyed watching his sons show Quarter Horses and taking trips to the Black Hills often with Sandy, but most of all Ellis loved spending his weekends with his family.

Ellis is preceded in death by his parents Archie and Evelyn Hirst, and wife of 54 years Sandra (Motz) Hirst.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons; Kevin (Tina) Hirst, Alan (Alyx) Hirst, grandchildren; Sydney (Sean), Derrick (Bri), Gunnar, Jocelynn, and Alaina, great grandchildren; Blaine, Tucker, Colter, Julia, and Taylor, sister Judy (Everett) Ellithorpe and caretaker Diane.
