James (Jim) H. Kirby Sr.

James (Jim) H. Kirby Sr. age 78, of Missouri Valley, Iowa, passed away on April 1, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Jim was born on August 9, 1939 to Victor J. and Marian M. (Knobbe) Kirby in Harlan, Iowa. Jim was the 3rd generation of Kirby Well Drilling until his failing health caused him to retire and close the business. He was an electrician, plumber, and his family all referred to him as Grandpa MaGyver because he could fix everything and solve everyone’s problems.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; Marian and Victor Kirby and his beloved dog, Maggie.

Survivors include his wife, Paula D (Frazier) Kirby, daughters; Lorry Fitzgerald and fiancé Dennis Cook, Susan Kirby and fiancé Bert Roach, sons; Roger Kirby and special friend Trish Myler, James Kirby Jr. and special friend Angela Naujoks, David Kirby and wife April (Travis) Kirby, sister: Shirley Eischeid (Lawrence), 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

Jim enjoyed mowing and working in his yard, he loved to sit in his front yard to watch traffic on Highway 30. He could be seen waving at people that honked and waved as they drove by. He liked to watch the birds and kept his bird feeder full, so he could watch from his kitchen table. He loved spending time with his family and especially loved hearing the giggles of his grandchildren and helping them whenever he could. Grandpa Jim was a great listener and gave good hugs, told great jokes, and enjoyed watching Tom and Jerry with the twins.

Jim’s wishes were for a quiet ending. He died peacefully in his sleep.

Private service arrangements are being held at Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa.

Celebration of Life 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2018 at the Eagles Club in Missouri Valley, Iowa for family and friends.

    My thoughts and prayers to you and your family. He was a great man who touched so many livea. Im glad my family could be part of his. He will be missed by many.
