Larry Gene Myer

Larry Gene Myer, age 89, of Missouri Valley, IA, passed away at home on Tuesday, February 20th, 2024, leaving behind 72 cans of black olives, any tool that his family or friends ever needed to borrow (that he usually gave away along with advice on how to use) and so many wonderful memories!

Larry graduated from Missouri Valley High School in Missouri Valley, IA. He then drove a semi-truck for many years. He went on to earn his associate degree in electronics from Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, IA. He then opened Myer Electronics in Missouri Valley, IA, when CB radios and ham radios were all the rage. He went back to driving over the road and retired from driving a truck but still found plenty of work to do around the house.

He enjoyed many, many things. Among those things were: deer hunting, fishing with family and friends, being stubborn, The Weather Channel, shooting guns, hunting for morel mushrooms, Oreos, The History Channel, black olives, old timers’ coffee at the gas station, online shopping, hot sauce that was never hot enough, and above all, his family.

Larry is survived by his overly-patient and accepting wife Sandy (Sandra Taylo), daughter Lisa (his favorite son-in-law Steve, who did not bribe me to add this) Stowe; step-daughter Michelle (Shelly) (Milton) Munoz, step-son Mike Campbell; grandchildren Amanda, Travis, and Jessica Roane, Collin Campbell; and great-grandchildren Taylor and Hunter Collins, Magnolia Meidl, and Oliver Roane; brother-in-law Terry Watts; sisters-in-law Phyllis Glarborg and Roberta (Birdie) (Richard) Copple and many other family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Wesley and Freda Myer; sister Elaine Watts; brother-in-law Sherill Powell; and sister-in-law Barb Powell.

Memorial donations in Larry’s name can be directed to the family or your favorite watering hole, where you are instructed to tell a few stories of the great Larry Myer.

Visitation will be 5:00p.m~7:00p.m Friday, February 23, 2024 at Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa.

Funeral Service will be 1:00p.m Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Hennessey Funeral Home.

Sending all my love and hugs to Sandy and the Stowe/Roane family. Larry was a wonderful father to my sister Lisa and an excellent grandpa to Amanda, Travis and Jess. He will be greatly missed. He always had a smile and a quiet, confident way about him.

Such a nice tribute to your dad, Lisa, I’m sure he is very happy to see all these kind thoughtful words and memories, from his “spot” in Heaven. This picture is just right!! You will all miss him always, but you have a lifetime of love and fun, happy, memories you get to keep safe inside your hearts forever! He was a warm and loving dad, and grandpa to you all, all your life! He lived a nice full life, he lived it just the way he wanted to live it. Sandy you and he had many years, did all the things loved to do together., and you will miss him every day, but happy memories will help, when nothing else can!. Larry always had a sweet, warm, soft, smile to share with all of us who knew him, and a good sense of humor to! My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all, during this very sad time..God Bless him, and each of you!
