Richard Isom

Richard “Dick” Durwin Isom, 81, passed away Monday, January 10, 2022 at home in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Dick was born October 8, 1940 in Loveland, Iowa to George R. and Velma F. (Hiles) Isom.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ada Isom, his sister Alice Knepper and his eldest brother Raymond Isom.

Dick is survived by his brother, Glenn Isom of Danbury, Iowa; his son Tony Isom and wife Bonnie of Maryland, and two grandsons, Nicholas and Christopher Isom of Maryland. He also had several nieces and nephews.

He graduated May 1959 from the Danbury Public High School in Danbury, Iowa. He joined the United States Air Force on December 27th 1962 as a Communications Systems Operator/Technician; Telecommunications Operations Supervisor; and a Tactical Aircraft Maintenance Specialist over the course of his twenty years in service to America.

Dick retired honorably in 1982 as a Master Sergeant (Msgt, E-7). After retiring from the US Air Force, Dick furthered his career as an Automotive Repair Instructor at Universal Technical Institute in Omaha, NE.

Dick continued in service to the Nation for seventeen years as a Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service, retiring August 31, 2003. As an active member of The American Legion, Post 337 of Missouri Valley, Iowa, he served as Post Commander and Honor Guard, giving continued service to America’s Veterans. Never shying away from helping the community, Dick had served on the Missouri Valley City Council. Richard Isom was a father, grandfather, friend and a dedicated patriot to the Nation. He will be missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Grace Community Fellowship Church in Missouri Valley, Iowa.

Dick will be laid to rest at Oak Grove Cemetery, Missouri Valley, Iowa on January 14, 2022. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m..

    I knew him and his wife over 15 years he was a Neighbor to my aunt bear Shari and he went to a church that I went to sorry to hear about Dick
